January 2013 started with a bang (and a sweep) for me when I attended the Gracie Jiu Jitsu Self Defence seminar, given by Jon Hegan at Laurence Sandum‘s Black Belt Martial Arts Academy in Chelmsford.

Brown Belt Jon Hegan took time in the session to go through some of the self defence syllabus from GJJ; techniques that he had been training in USA with Royce Gracie just a few weeks before.

Also in attendance was Mark Phillips, himself a brown belt, who I was lucky enough to partner up with for most of the session. It was a great opportunity to have some of the finer points of the moves explained to me.
