Kickboxing

Kickboxing is a sport that uses punches from Boxing and kicks found in a variety of martial arts, such as karate, kung fu and tae kwon do.

Kickboxing is similar to Muay Thai in as far as it is a striking sport. Unlike Muay Thai, in kickboxing it is against the rules to use elbows and knees or excessively hold the opponent.

Rules vary, but normally all strikes are to the front of the body, above the waist, and head.

Different types of kickboxing competition include:

  • Semi-Contact (Points Fighting)
  • Light Continuous (Use of Controlled Techniques Only – Knockout’s are Frowned Upon)
  • Full Contact (Use of Full Power/Knockouts are Allowed)

Kickboxing training consists of pad work, bag training, sparring, partner work, shadow boxing, and conditioning.
